Her pelt was soaked through from her earlier swim, though it was quickly drying under the high sun. Despite the cold chill in the water that still remained from leafbare, Saltstar took plenty of chances to swim. She was used to the chill, anyways; she'd grown up with it her entire life, after all. Of course, she always felt that familiar grip of terror when her body seized up and she couldn't seem to find her paws in the icy water. But what kind of WaveClan cat would be afraid of swimming? So she endured the fear and jumped in. It wasn't like she was actually afraid of swimming so much as she was drowning. But she would never voice this to anyone, not even her own clan. She was leader, for StarClan's sake!
Saltstar pushed these thoughts out of her head, but they were promptly replaced by those of the struggles between the clans. GrassClan continued to cross the border, chasing prey that was clearly WaveClan territory. According to her, it was automatically WaveClan's prey when it crossed the border. Nevermind the fact that the prey they chased over the border was probably a bit too fast for her warriors to catch -- WaveClan cats were swimmers, not runners. But that was beside the point. GrassClan had no right to it when it crossed over.
And, of course, there was still CliffClan. They absolutely refused to give up the fight over the islands. They weren't meant for those bird-brained felines! The islands were in the water. Not the sky. The water. And which clan was given the swimming abilities? Hers. Truth be told, she was a little envious of the CliffClanners and their feathery wings. But she'd never even admit this to herself. Because they just thought they were so much better than everyone else with those wings of theirs...
She rolled onto her back in the sand, relishing in the warmth on her belly. If only every moment could be as simple as this one. Then she'd be set for life.
